Huawei SSD Storage Makes Magazine Headlines

Der Spiegel, Germany’s leading weekly magazine and digital media brand, needed to support rapid growth in online and mixed-media publishing while relying on an aging storage environment that was becoming a bottleneck. Its automated publication process, large digital archive, virtualized servers, and database applications all demanded higher performance, stronger reliability, and lower latency than the existing SATA-based SAN could deliver. Huawei, working with partner Itiso, was brought in to address these storage challenges with its Dorado2100 SSD Storage solution.

Huawei implemented two Dorado2100 full-SSD storage systems integrated with Der Spiegel’s existing FalconStor-managed SAN and virtualized infrastructure. The new setup delivered major performance gains, including up to 100,000 IOPS and 600 microsecond average latency, while also reducing power consumption by up to 90% and shrinking space requirements to just 2U per enclosure. Der Spiegel reported that tasks that once took minutes to write to SATA drives now took seconds, and Huawei’s solution also improved scalability, reliability, and overall TCO.
