A Huawei Case Study
Deltares, the Dutch institute for delta technology, needed a more powerful and open IT platform to support the Netherlands’ Digital Delta flood-control initiative. Its legacy Deltares-FEWS environment could not handle the expected petabytes of hydrological and meteorological data, lacked real-time information sharing through a unified GUI, and was too closed for easy virtualization and expansion. To address these challenges, Deltares turned to Huawei server and storage technology.
Huawei implemented a converged infrastructure solution built around FusionServer E9000 blade servers, S5600T storage, and high-performance virtual machines. The new platform supports 60 VMs per site with flexible 10GE, FC, and IB access, delivering up to 16.2 TFLOPS per rack and improving data processing efficiency by more than four times. Huawei’s solution also reduced the physical footprint from three racks per site to one 22U rack, lowering TCO while enabling real-time data sharing and scalable flood-risk modeling.
