Shanghai Police Bureau (SPB) needed to upgrade its Emergency Command System for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, requiring a more reliable, intelligent transport network for audio, video, and data traffic. Facing limited fiber resources at the aggregation and access layers, tight timelines, and the need for strong device, network, and service reliability, SPB turned to Huawei for an SDH-based transport solution.
Huawei implemented an ASON transport network using OSN series devices, including OSN 7500 at the core, OSN 3500 at aggregation, and OSN 2500/1500/500 at access. The solution included layered protection and hot backup features to improve resilience, optimize fiber use, and speed service scheduling. As a result, SPB gained a secure and reliable fiber-optic platform, expanded capacity at zero cost with 5 to 8 years of future growth, and completed the project on time with quick, lossless service cutovers.
