Huawei Microgrid Solar Solution Powers Rural Cameroon

Cameroon’s Electricity Development, through the Cameroon Water Resources and Energy Ministry, faced a major rural electrification challenge: only 56.8% of the population had access to electricity, grid coverage was concentrated in Yaoundé and Douala, and most rural residents still relied on wood for energy. To address the lack of reliable power in off-grid areas, the organization looked to Huawei and its Microgrid Solar Solution.

Huawei implemented a Microgrid Solar Solution combining solar PV, energy storage, diesel generator support, smart metering, and automated management systems to deliver reliable electricity in remote villages. After phase I, Huawei’s solution brought power to 166 villages and more than 120,000 people, generated over 17 million kWh annually, and increased rural electricity coverage from 18% to 20%, while also improving local living standards, education, healthcare, and economic development.
