Huawei Keeps Malaysian Light Rail on Track

Malaysia’s National Infrastructure Company selected Huawei to deliver the communications systems for the Ampang Light Rail Transit extension in Kuala Lumpur. The project involved integrating multiple existing and new rail networks across 18 km of underground track with 13 stations and 10 substations, while managing complex subsystem interfaces, service migration without disruption, and strict reliability and EMC requirements. Huawei provided SDH backbone, SCADA, AFC, TETRA transmission, enterprise networking, NTP clock services, broadcasting, and video surveillance.

Huawei implemented an end-to-end EPC and integration approach, including interface management, pre-integration testing, detailed migration planning, and optimized RAMS/EMC design supported by its Global Compliance and Testing Center. As a result, Huawei helped replace legacy analog systems with efficient IP-based communications, reduce migration risk, and improve reliability, quality, maintainability, and safety for the rail line’s communications and SCADA systems.
