Huawei Helps Build ‘Smart’ Guangfu Community

Color Cube, a pioneer integrated service provider in Yunnan province, China, needed to modernize the Guangfu community in Kunming into a full smart city environment. The project had to support residential, commercial, office, cultural, and entertainment spaces, while also integrating 17 legacy systems and more than 10 million access terminals across a very large area. Color Cube turned to Huawei to address the complexity of unified network coverage and interoperability, while keeping total cost of ownership under control.

Huawei implemented an all-optical Passive Optical LAN (POL) solution based on GPON, using Huawei OLT and ONU devices to create a unified network platform for the community’s legacy systems. Huawei also helped cloudify the community data center and deployed Wi-Fi across the entire area with POL backhaul. The result was a smarter, more flexible community infrastructure that cut deployment and operating costs by about 50%, while enabling new services such as data-driven advertising and improved user experiences.
