A Huawei Case Study
Tutor, an optical network contractor in Northern France, needed a long-distance access solution for sparsely populated areas where copper could not reach far enough and point-to-point fiber would consume too many resources. The company also needed a reliable, open network that would be easier to manage across remote sites. Huawei, using its GPON all-optical access solution, helped address these requirements.
Huawei implemented an open, reliable GPON network for Tutor, extending ONU coverage from 20 km to 40 km and enabling bandwidth upgrades from 2.5 Gbit/s to 10 Gbit/s or 40 Gbit/s without rebuilding the existing ODN. The solution’s passive splitters and Huawei HG8247 and HG8010H ONT devices reduced failure points and maintenance costs, while open access support improved carrier flexibility. As a result, Tutor won broadband network construction bids with local government agencies and strengthened its leadership in FTTH deployment.
