A Huawei Case Study
Newcastle University, a leading Russell Group institution, faced the challenge of modernizing its IT infrastructure to meet the exponentially growing bandwidth demands of its 20,000 students and 2,500 staff. The existing network was under strain from the proliferation of mobile devices and the increased need for voice, video, and data services. The university needed a future-proof core network and Wi-Fi solution that could be seamlessly migrated to without disrupting critical campus services.
Huawei implemented the UK's first 100GE university core network using their CloudEngine 12800 core switches and a high-density Wi-Fi solution with over 5,000 access points. This provided seamless, high-speed wired and wireless connectivity across the 50-acre campus. The Huawei solution dramatically improved the student experience, exceeded expectations, and reduced the total cost of ownership through lower power consumption and improved port density. It also allowed the university to extend network coverage beyond the initial budget, providing more services for less cost while ensuring a strong return on investment.
