Huawei Communications System Extends Ampang LRT

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, one of Malaysia’s largest public transport operators, needed to extend and modernize the Ampang LRT network to serve growing passenger demand and expand service into Puchong and Putra Heights. The aging infrastructure, limited coverage, and obsolete signaling required a new CBTC-ready communications foundation, and Huawei was brought in to support the rail telecom and ICT upgrade.

Huawei acted as systems integrator for the Ampang LRT Extension Project, delivering an end-to-end communications solution including transmission backbone, datacom, trunk radio, IP telephony, Passenger Help Points, voice recording, PA/PIDS, CCTV, clock, and SCADA systems, along with engineering, commissioning, and assurance services. Huawei’s solution improved interoperability across subsystems and helped double the line’s capacity to more than 400,000 passengers per day, while improving reliability, reducing maintenance needs, and enhancing the passenger experience.
