Huawei Cable Solution Improves Bandwidth

Guangzhou Digital Media Group, Ltd. (Guangzhou Media), a major cable TV and broadband operator in southern China, needed to expand bandwidth to support HD interactive TV, broadband Internet, and VoIP. Its legacy CMTS network was struggling with rising bandwidth demand, limited equipment room space, and heavy optical fiber requirements.

Huawei proposed a Distributed CMTS (D-CMTS) solution, moving CMTS devices to remote optical stations while keeping the existing HFC network and customer terminals intact. The upgrade delivered higher bandwidth, reduced equipment room space by 70% and power consumption by 50%, cut optical fiber use by 80%, and improved signal-to-noise ratio by more than 4 dB. As a result, Guangzhou Media expanded service to 420,000 users, increased broadband offerings to 20 Mbit/s and prepared for 100 Mbit/s access, while interactive TV subscriptions grew 20% monthly.
