A Huawei Case Study
Southern Cross University (SCU), a research-intensive Australian public university with campuses in New South Wales and southern Queensland, needed to replace an aging campus network that was over six years old and struggling with low performance, limited resilience, and growing wireless and mobile demand. SCU also faced increasing traffic from teaching, research, and student services, while its complex, siloed network management was driving up costs and reducing efficiency. Huawei was brought in to modernize the campus infrastructure.
Huawei implemented an Agile Network Solution built around CloudEngine technology, the S12700 core Agile Switch, SVF, 802.11ac APs, GE/10 GE switching, and NGFW-based security. The new design simplified management with zero-touch provisioning and unified wired/wireless control, improved bandwidth and wireless capacity up to 1.75 Gbit/s, and prepared the network for future growth with upgrade paths to 40 GE and 100 GE. As a result, SCU gained a faster, more flexible, and more secure campus network that better supports current and future student demand.
