Huawei AMI Boosts Ikeja’s Bottom Line

Ikeja Electric, one of Nigeria’s largest power utilities, faced major challenges with high line losses, unpaid electricity, inaccurate estimated billing, and inefficient meter reading. To address these issues, Huawei worked with Ikeja on an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) initiative using intelligent meters, PLC and IoT communications, and a centralized data platform.

Huawei’s end-to-end AMI solution improved billing accuracy, theft detection, and remote meter management while integrating prepayment, billing, and analytics tools. As a result, Ikeja cut line loss from 45% to 14%, reduced electricity theft by 90%, improved fee collection by 40%, doubled revenues, and shortened payback time by more than 60%.
