Huawei Agile POL Empowers Enel for Smart Sustainability

Enel, the global power company behind Open Power and a major supporter of Formula E, needed to upgrade its headquarters network to support bandwidth-heavy services like desktop cloud, mobile office, and video conferencing. Its legacy infrastructure suffered from complex cabling, high latency, low speeds, rising energy use, and too much space consumption. Huawei was brought in to analyze and renovate the network, using its Agile POL solution with GPON-based optical access products.

Huawei implemented an Agile POL network at Enel’s headquarters using SmartAX MA5800 Series OLTs, SmartAX 10 Gbit/s PON ONUs, and EchoLife Series Optical Network Terminals. The new fiber-based network boosted speed from 100 Mbit/s to 700 Mbit/s, cut energy use by more than 60%, reduced footprint by 80%, and improved deployment efficiency by 50% while lowering OPEX by more than 50%.
