A Huawei Case Study
Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) in the UAE, a large higher-education institution with 17 campuses and about 22,000 students and academics, needed a better way to share teaching software and digital resources across campuses. Before adopting Huawei’s desktop cloud approach, HCT faced fragmented resource management, weak information security protection, limited support for mobile learning, and scattered IT assets that were difficult to manage efficiently.
Huawei implemented an end-to-end FusionAccess desktop cloud virtualization solution, supported by FusionSphere and FusionManager, to centralize desktop and teaching resource delivery with high availability and unified O&M. The result was controlled sharing for authorized users, mobile access for students on tablets and smartphones, and centralized management that improved O&M efficiency by at least 10 times. Huawei also helped HCT reduce energy use, with virtual machines consuming about 35 W on average versus 200 W or more for conventional PCs, delivering at least 70% power savings per VM.
