Hadoop ushers in bank’s Big Data era

Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), one of China’s “Big 4” commercial banks, faced explosive data growth from more than 420 million customers and rapidly increasing transaction volumes. To support smarter data mining across structured and unstructured data, ABC evaluated Hadoop-based big data solutions to replace more expensive midrange computing and handle massive volumes at lower cost.

Huawei implemented a distributed parallel computing cluster using 200 RH2288 V2 x86 servers for ABC’s Hadoop Big Data platform. The solution delivered strong performance and scalability, cutting operating expenses by 40% and total cost of ownership by more than 20%, while meeting sub-second query response goals and processing 120 TB of transaction records; tests also showed it could handle 85 GB of original data in 10 minutes and respond to 200 million transactions plus 600 queries in 40 ms.
