GSM-R Keeps High-Speed Railway Rolling

Turkish State Railroad Company (TSR), Turkey’s national railway, needed to support the EKB high-speed line across challenging terrain with 42 tunnels, complex mountains, and strict requirements for interoperability and network security. Huawei provided a GSM-R solution for the project to help deliver reliable rail communications under these demanding conditions.

Huawei implemented an ETCS L2-compliant GSM-R system featuring Distributed Base Stations (DBS) with RRU multi-site cell technology, plus a BTS ring network for greater resilience and security. The solution improved radio coverage, maintained uninterrupted service through tunnels and mountainous areas, supported interoperability with third-party railway devices and systems, and enabled trains to operate at speeds up to 267 mph (430 km/h).
