Ethiopia SchoolNet Shares Education Resources Using Desktop Cloud

Ethiopia SchoolNet, a project dedicated to integrating national educational resources in Ethiopia, faced challenges with unreliable infrastructure for remote teaching. They needed a centralized and easily maintainable desktop cloud solution to deliver high-definition Video on Demand (VoD) content to rural schools despite bandwidth limitations and complex IT environments. They partnered with vendor Huawei for a solution.

Huawei implemented its end-to-end FusionCloud desktop cloud solution, which featured a specialized protocol to minimize bandwidth usage and robust reliability mechanisms. The deployment supported 5,200 virtual desktops across 65 schools, enabling centralized management and remote O&M. This provided students and teachers with flexible, anytime access to multimedia resources from any terminal while significantly lowering power consumption.
