Railways Pensions Management Ltd. (RPMI), a U.K.-based pension administration and fund management company, needed to improve the performance and efficiency of its growing database applications. Its overnight reporting jobs were taking up to eight hours, valuation reporting could take as long as 46 hours, and the work was consuming valuable database resources and forcing weekend processing. RPMI turned to Huawei, with support from partner C-Ways, to find a storage solution that could deliver higher IOPS, strong reliability, virtualization compatibility, and lower total cost of ownership.

Huawei implemented an OceanStor Dorado2100 G2 all-flash storage system at RPMI’s two production centers, along with an OceanStor 2600T for disaster recovery. The result was a ten-fold IOPS improvement and one-tenth the access delay of the legacy SAN, cutting administrative report generation from eight hours to two and reducing valuation reports from 46 hours to 12. Huawei also helped RPMI save on space and power by 90% compared with a traditional disk array, eliminate weekend scheduling for reports, and improve overall operational efficiency.
