Campus Network Enhances Newcastle’s Future

Newcastle University, a top U.K. research university, wanted to build a digitized campus to support modern teaching models such as remote education, interactive classrooms, online testing, and video conferencing. As student use of Wi‑Fi devices increased across the historic campus, the university faced rising bandwidth demands and coverage gaps. Huawei was selected to help address these challenges.

Huawei implemented a campus network solution with a 100 GE core, 10 GE aggregation, and full-gigabit Wi‑Fi coverage, including AP5030DN 802.11ac access points and eSight network management. The solution was designed to improve reliability, support the university’s bandwidth needs for the next 10 years, and allow reuse of some existing devices to protect ROI. The result was a more modern campus with stronger teaching and research capabilities and high-capacity wireless coverage.
