Case Study: State Grid Corporation of China achieves more reliable smart grid operations with Huawei network solutions

A Huawei Case Study

Preview of the State Grid Corporation of China Case Study

Building Robust Smart Grids

State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), the world’s largest electric utility, needed to upgrade its rapidly expanding network to support a growing mix of applications, including office automation, ERP, call centers, video conferencing, and especially SCADA. As the network became larger and more complex, SGCC needed stronger security, better QoS for different services, and a more robust design that could keep critical operations available even when links or nodes failed.

Huawei provided an MPLS VPN-based network solution with VPN QoS, along with a mesh/partial-mesh topology to eliminate single points of failure and add redundancy. Huawei also deployed fast protection mechanisms such as BFD, VPN FRR, and IP FRR, enabling failover within 200 ms. As a result, SGCC gained a unified, logically isolated IP network with improved service continuity; network fault rates dropped by 20% and key network disconnections fell by more than 30%.
