Brisbane Skytower Sets Smart Building Example

Brisbane Skytower, a 270-meter, 90-story residential tower under construction in Brisbane, needed a smart building network that could support sustainable, secure, and energy-efficient operations while handling growing demands for high bandwidth, ubiquitous access, and integrated building services. Huawei, working with Honeywell Building Solutions and Billbergia Group, was chosen to help address these challenges with a Passive Optical LAN (POL) architecture and related optical networking products.

Huawei implemented a POL solution using technologies such as SmartAX OLTs, ONUs, and EchoLife optical network terminals to unify data, voice, video, Wi-Fi, surveillance, and building systems over a single fiber network. The result was a simpler, easier-to-manage infrastructure with reduced cabling and improved scalability; the Skytower network used over 34 kilometers of fiber optic cable and 1,144 Huawei ONTs, helping the project win Honeywell’s 2017 Award for Solution Breakthroughs.
