A Huawei Case Study
Hada High-Speed Railway, the world’s first high-speed rail line above the Arctic Circle, needed a communications system that could reliably support CTCS L3 train control across 572 miles of harsh terrain and extreme winter conditions. The railway faced major challenges from temperatures as low as -40°F, high-speed wireless stability issues, tunnel coverage, and limited radio frequencies, so it selected Huawei and its field-proven GSM-R solution.
Huawei implemented an end-to-end GSM-R network with hot standby disaster recovery, high-speed cell coverage, and interoperability testing with Bombardier. The solution used DBS3900 Distributed Base Stations, Remote Radio Units, redundancy technologies, and fast switching algorithms to improve continuity, coverage, capacity, and signal security, while reducing repeaters and maintenance costs and ensuring the system worked in extreme cold.
