Breaking News: Desktop Cloud Cuts Costs

China Central Television (CCTV), mainland China’s leading broadcaster, needed a better way to support thousands of mobile journalists who spent most of their time in the field. Its traditional PC-based office environment was difficult to manage centrally, had low resource utilization, and created high maintenance costs as IT teams had to patch, upgrade, and support dispersed desktops. Huawei proposed a desktop cloud approach using its pool-mode desktop cloud solution to address these challenges.

Huawei deployed CCTV’s journalist office system with FusionCloud series software, including FusionSphere, FusionAccess, and FusionManager, running on Huawei blade servers and storage. The solution provided centralized management, strong security, and high availability, while replacing traditional PCs with 500 virtual desktops for about 3,000 journalists. Huawei helped CCTV cut device costs by up to 30%, reduce power consumption by more than 70%, and improve operations and maintenance efficiency by more than 10 times.
