A Huawei Case Study
Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU), a major Chinese university known for transportation and communication engineering research, needed more computing power to support thousands of government and scientific projects. Its existing computing resources could not meet researchers’ demands, and the university also wanted to build an educational cloud computing platform to improve IT resource utilization. Huawei provided the HPC platform foundation, including servers and cluster management software.
Huawei implemented the solution using E9000 converged blade servers with CH121 compute nodes, RH2485 V2 storage servers, RH2285 V2 GPU nodes, and FusionCluster management software, with Lustre-based storage for scale-out capacity. The first phase of the platform went live in 2014 with 30.5 TFLOPS of performance, and the design supports expansion to 100 TFLOPS and PB-level storage. Huawei’s integrated approach sped deployment, improved scalability, and helped BJTU reduce management costs while better supporting R&D work.
