Alibaba Group, through its Alipay subsidiary, needed to support explosive growth in online payments and e-commerce transactions while maintaining security, integrity, and high performance. Its traditional data network could not keep up with the massive, bursty traffic generated by millions of users, especially during peak events such as Singles’ Day, so Alibaba turned to Huawei for a more scalable and reliable data center network.

Huawei implemented a 10-gigabit LAN switch-based data center solution using the Huawei S9306 LAN switch. The flattened, non-blocking network design, large-capacity packet caching, bundled 10-gigabit links, and MSTP improved load sharing, redundancy, and security, helping Alibaba build a stable platform capable of supporting up to USD $160 billion in annual transactions and handling large-scale traffic spikes with high reliability.
