Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), the largest commercial bank in China, needed a more cost-effective way to support the rapid growth of its open platform and electronic document management workloads. As application volumes and historical data grew, ICBC’s existing reliance on expensive mid-range and high-end storage created low ROI concerns and made it difficult to efficiently handle the large amount of archived banking data.

Huawei addressed this by deploying its OceanStor S2600 storage system as a low-end, high-capacity, highly scalable storage layer, including near-line storage for ICBC’s multi-level storage strategy. Huawei’s solution improved information lifecycle management, reduced purchase costs by up to 35% and maintenance costs by as much as 40%, and was installed across 31 tier-1 branches and 5 branches directly managed by the head office.
