A HSI Case Study
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) faced a challenge with its onboarding: new hires from diverse backgrounds were given a generic, 3–4 hour Laboratory Orientation that focused on compliance but failed to convey PNNL’s mission, values, or how employees add value. To create a more engaging first‑day experience and better communicate culture, PNNL engaged HSI to redesign its New Hire Orientation (NHO).
HSI led learning assessments with stakeholders and developed a learning roadmap and an interactive digital flipbook NHO that delivers the core orientation in under an hour, with follow-up just‑in‑time modules over the following weeks. The HSI solution cut first‑day training time from about 3–4 hours to under an hour, improved new hires’ understanding of PNNL’s mission and culture, and created a more inspiring, scalable welcome for large cohorts of employees.
