A HSI Case Study
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District needed a way to train defense personnel at Fort Sill, Oklahoma on munitions and explosives of concern (MEC). Because the range contains a wide variety of unexploded ordnance from many countries and eras, the challenge was helping users at different skill levels identify UXO and understand the related hazards and procedures. HSI was engaged to design and develop an interactive online training course.
HSI created a single, plain-language, image-rich online course for all impacted personnel, including military, civilian, and contract staff. The training covered UXO identification, marking and isolation protocols, hazard assessment, and notification procedures, with reference materials spanning 100 years of ordnance use at Fort Sill. While the case study does not provide numeric results, HSI’s solution helped standardize safety training across a broad audience working on or near active and reclaimed ranges.
