Building materials company enhances efficiencies by developing qualified electric worker program

Small Building Materials Company, a 200-employee asphalt producer near Indianapolis, needed to improve plant efficiency after an acquisition but lacked in-house electrical expertise and relied on expensive outside electricians. To meet OSHA's qualified electric worker standards and develop a lockout/tagout program, they engaged HSI to deliver Qualified Electric Worker Training, including HSI’s Industrial Skills online electrical theory courses and customized on-site instruction.

HSI performed job evaluations, delivered online coursework, and sent an SME for on-site, task-specific training—providing checklists and adapting lessons to workers’ skill levels. As a result, the pilot site met OSHA training expectations, worker engagement and confidence increased, and the company reduced reliance on external electricians while preparing to roll the program out to other locations.
