Worcester Polytechnic Institute - Customer Case Study

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), a private engineering and technical university, needed a modern Infrastructure-as-a-Service platform to support new document management and collaboration applications for students, faculty, and staff. Its legacy racks of servers and a Dell SAN were costly, hard to scale and maintain, and could not meet requirements for always-on availability, fast deployment, unified management, and budget constraints.

WPI deployed SimpliVity OmniCube as a federated, hyperconverged platform across two data centers, providing integrated compute, storage, inline deduplication/compression, and VMware-centered management. The rollout delivered faster application deployment, improved uptime and RPO/RTOs, simple global management, pay-as-you-grow scale-out, cloud-capable VM backups, and cut infrastructure costs by more than half while freeing IT staff for higher-value work.
