A HPE Simplivity Case Study
Westmoreland Intermediate Unit, a Pennsylvania educational service agency supporting 17 school districts and numerous online learning programs, was running growing Tier‑1 applications (including a 2TB Exchange server and multiple Moodle instances) on an aging infrastructure. With about 12TB of data, shrinking capacity forced reduced backup frequency and retention, long backup windows (up to eight hours on site and 48 hours to cloud), and unreliable performance—problems unacceptable for their mission-critical services.
They deployed three SimpliVity CN‑3000 OmniCubes (2+1 federation), consolidating the data center and migrating 30 VMs (~12TB) in a day and a half. The hyperconverged solution delivered 27:1 data efficiency and 240TB of capacity savings, eliminated a full rack, and provided inline deduplication/compression with integrated protection. Backups that once took hours now complete in seconds with 30‑day retention, restores run in minutes, RTOs/RPOs improved dramatically, and management was simplified via vCenter.
