A HPE Simplivity Case Study
The University of Namibia (UNAM), the country’s largest higher‑education institution with 12 campuses and about 19,000 students, was struggling with a growing, complex IT environment built on legacy servers, SANs and multiple vendor point solutions. With 500+ lab desktops and critical Tier‑1 applications (Oracle, SQL Server, Exchange, SharePoint, SAP), UNAM needed data‑center consolidation, infrastructure modernization and a VDI solution to simplify management and support future growth, so it engaged Salt Essential IT to identify the right platform.
UNAM deployed two SimpliVity OmniCube CN‑3000 hyperconverged appliances, gaining inline deduplication, compression and optimization, integrated backup/DR and globally unified management within VMware vCenter. The implementation delivered a 75% performance increase, value realized within one week, simplified operations, improved RPO/RTOs, reduced DR bandwidth and data‑center space/cooling needs, and prompted plans to expand OmniCubes to other campuses.
