Unichem accelerates innovation, reimagines production, and strengthens compliance

Unichem Laboratories Ltd., a major Indian generic‑drug manufacturer with operations across India, the U.S., Europe and Brazil, needed to shorten the gap between discovery, approval and production to grow in North America and Europe. The company faced fragmented data and processes across multiple sites, a move from UNIX to Linux, prior vendor lock‑in and slow disaster recovery (SAP quality system could take ~48 hours to recover), all of which constrained innovation, regulatory compliance and global collaboration.

Unichem implemented a hyperconverged HPE SimpliVity infrastructure to consolidate applications and data across sites. The new platform reduced SAP recovery to under 60 seconds, stored 3.5 TB of VM data in just 769 GB (high deduplication/compression), enabled 300 R&D staff to work remotely on a single data set, and accelerated approvals—annual ANDAs rose from about 20 to 50—while improving continuity, security and regulatory auditability.
