A HPE Simplivity Case Study
Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC), the largest federally qualified health center in Maine, was running an aging multivendor IT stack (HP servers, Dell Compellent storage) that was out of capacity and relied on local backups only. This put mission‑critical systems (GE Healthcare CPS EMR, Dentrix, SQL Server, Exchange, Citrix VDI, etc.) at risk, creating an urgent need to modernize infrastructure, improve availability and enable reliable disaster recovery.
PCHC replaced the legacy rack with SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure (four 2U nodes in the primary site plus two remote nodes), gaining built‑in replication, deduplication and fast VM cloning. The result: dramatic DR and backup improvements (a 1 TB SQL backup now takes one minute vs 12 hours; critical apps backed up every 30 minutes), 100% uptime, 1.25 PB logical data stored on just 40 TB physical, simplified administration, and an estimated ~$34K annual power and cooling savings.
