The Mississippi Department of Revenue replaced an aging, multivendor IT environment (Cisco servers and EMC storage) that had become expensive, complex and unable to meet RPO/RTO goals with its EMC Avamar backups. The agency needed a technology refresh to improve disaster recovery and streamline administration for critical applications including its automated revenue system, SQL Server, Exchange, Active Directory and SharePoint.

The Department deployed SimpliVity OmniStack integrated with Cisco UCS (three 2U nodes in the primary data center and two nodes at a remote site for DR). The solution delivers real‑time deduplication, compression and fast backups—TB‑scale VMs are restored in seconds versus hours—about a 50% perceived boost in application performance, elimination of weekend maintenance, and major storage savings (160 TB logical data uses only 22 TB physical), while three 2U units replaced nearly two racks of legacy gear.
