iON Solutions, a Jacksonville-based managed service provider and value-added reseller supporting two sites and 96 VMs, needed to modernize an aging, complex server and SAN environment while improving backup, data protection, automation, disaster recovery, and overall costs. The legacy setup left RPOs and RTOs unacceptable for customers and required multiple management interfaces and manual processes.

iON implemented SimpliVity OmniCube, a hyperconverged “datacenter-in-a-box” with built-in inline deduplication, compression, optimization and VM-centric, policy-based replication. The single-platform solution eliminated legacy SANs, simplified management in VMware vCenter, enabled hourly VM backups with extensive retention, and dramatically improved RPO/RTO — for example, a customer virus incident was rolled back to the noon backup and fully restored within 30 minutes (users back online in 15 minutes), while administrative overhead and costs were significantly reduced.
