A HPE Simplivity Case Study
Burgmann Anglican School, an independent Anglican school system serving over 1,500 students across two campuses in Gungahlin, Australia, faced a costly, fragmented multivendor IT environment supporting student administration, Microsoft SQL Server, a Mitel VoIP system and core services. The school needed to refresh legacy infrastructure, simplify operations so generalist IT staff could manage systems without frequent outside consultants, and reduce both CAPEX and OPEX.
The school deployed SimpliVity OmniStack hyperconverged infrastructure, replacing an entire equipment rack with two 2U nodes per site in a redundant federation. The result was dramatically lower TCO, major CAPEX/OPEX savings, a reduction in annual IT consulting spend (from about $150,000 to $20,000), simplified single-pane administration, and a compact footprint. Built‑in data efficiencies (roughly 78:1) and fast VM-centric backup/recovery delivered high performance and reliability for critical apps—restoring the Mitel VoIP service in 15 seconds—while freeing IT staff for higher‑value work.
