A HPE Nimble Storage Case Study
Virtual Radiologic (vRad) is a leading teleradiology provider that supports 450+ radiologists serving over 2,000 medical facilities and reading more than seven million studies a year. vRad’s aging Compellent storage platform was creating SQL latencies that forced lengthy overnight maintenance, caused daily SQL reports to take more than two hours, and prevented the company from affording a separate SAN for production databases—impairing daytime performance and service delivery.
vRad deployed a Nimble Storage SmartStack (Nimble CS460 GX2) with Cisco UCS and VMware, migrating development and then production workloads. The new solution cut write latency 5x and read latency 25x, reduced daily SQL report time from over two hours to under one hour, increased IOPS by 50%, improved storage utilization with 1.5x+ compression, enabled a dedicated SAN for production SQL, and accelerated delivery of radiology results to clinicians.
