A HPE Nimble Storage Case Study
The Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet — a small IT team supporting statewide government services — was seeing declining response times for key applications in 2012. The Matrix web server experienced SAN-induced latencies up to 100 ms that were causing systems to fail, and the team needed a cost-effective storage upgrade within a constrained budget.
After trialling and deploying a Nimble CS220 hybrid flash-disk array, the department achieved a tenfold performance improvement and doubled effective capacity through inline compression (8TB raw to ~16TB effective). The array was installed quickly, proved easy to manage and reliable, and now supports the core database and Matrix server with plans to expand for disaster recovery.
