Royal Freemasons’ Benevolent Institution Overcomes Storage Bottleneck with Nimble

Royal Freemasons’ Benevolent Institution (RFBI) is a not‑for‑profit aged‑care provider operating across New South Wales and the ACT with more than 1,100 staff caring for over 2,200 residents. In late 2013 RFBI’s five‑year‑old SAN was at end of life, creating performance bottlenecks that affected critical systems (email, ERP/financials, clinical apps) and threatened the planned upgrade to a new core financials package.

RFBI selected a Nimble CS220G 10Gbps array for its ease of management, included features (compression, replication) and cost predictability, and implemented it with partner Quorum Systems. The parallel migration to Nimble eliminated SAN bottlenecks, delivered low latency and headroom—benchmarks showed peaks beyond 15,000 IOPS—simplified storage management with a single disk pool, and freed capacity to roll out BI, budgeting and resident‑management systems while reducing training needs.
