Hosted Desktop Empowers Mobile Workers with VDI and Nimble Storage

Hosted Desktop UK (HDUK) is a UK-based cloud service provider that delivers hosted virtual desktops to professional firms, supporting about 650 clients and 6,000 daily users. After launching its VDI service on Dell storage and Hyper‑V, HDUK faced rising demand that outstripped performance, inefficient EqualLogic snapshots that consumed rack space, and replication challenges for disaster recovery.

HDUK replaced its Dell arrays with Nimble Storage (a CS460G at the primary site and CS210s at DR), enabling SAN‑to‑SAN replication, rapid provisioning and easy upgrades, and granular monitoring with InfoSight. The move doubled usable capacity in the same footprint, increased VDI performance roughly 8x (to ~40,000 IOPS), supported hourly replication of tens of TBs and 480 daily snapshots, simplified management, and improved user satisfaction and product offerings.
