Case Study: Grocery Outlet achieves faster application performance and instant backups with HPE Nimble Storage

A HPE Nimble Storage Case Study

Preview of the Grocery Outlet Case Study

Grocery Outlet Is Sold on the Benefits of Flash-Optimized Storage

Grocery Outlet, a family-oriented discount grocery chain with 149 independently operated stores, centralized IT in Berkeley to manage purchasing, distribution and critical applications. Rapid data growth had outpaced their legacy SAN/DAS environment, degrading Oracle performance, stretching nightly backups into business hours and overloading a limited DR link, and they needed a more powerful, cost-effective platform to support a new Oracle.net application and reliable replication.

They deployed two Nimble CS240 flash‑optimized arrays as a converged primary and backup platform. The arrays delivered high primary performance, instant array-based backups and restores (cutting backup times from hours to minutes), inline 2–4x compression and zero‑copy cloning, simplified management, and more efficient replication to the DR site—enabling the new Oracle platform to run well, eliminating a separate backup tier, and lowering storage costs.
