Gateway Health Improves Service to Those in Need with Nimble Storage

Gateway Health, a Pennsylvania managed-care organization serving more than 300,000 vulnerable citizens, was experiencing degrading storage performance from legacy NetApp arrays that created I/O bottlenecks in its Citrix XenDesktop virtual desktop environment and slowed Oracle and SQL processing. With rapid data growth and a need for reliable remote access and business continuity for telecommuters, the IT team sought better write performance, faster processing windows, and simpler storage management.

Gateway moved VDI, Oracle and SQL workloads to Nimble Storage CS-Series arrays with InfoSight. The deployment cut VDI login times by one third and removed desktop virtualization latency, boosted Oracle performance by roughly 50% (some stored procedures dropped from ~6 hours to 2.5), improved SQL by about 35%, added robust snapshot/replication-based DR, halved datacenter footprint, and delivered significant cost savings over the previous platform.
