First State Super Achieves Positive Dividend with Nimble Storage

First State Super is one of Australia’s largest not-for-profit superannuation funds with over 770,000 members and $45 billion in funds under management. Rapid growth and a 2011 merger put pressure on its heavily virtualised IT environment, and an ageing storage array had rising support costs, limited disaster-recovery capability and required more time and expertise than the small IT team could spare.

First State Super deployed two Nimble CS240G arrays (installed in under a day by partner CSG) to replace the legacy SAN. The solution delivered fast wins: lower maintenance, storage and power costs, increased capacity and noticeably better performance for remote users, elimination of downtime during firmware updates, and improved DR through snapshots and replication. Continuous monitoring via Nimble’s Heartbeat and InfoSight also gave full SAN visibility and, together with longer UPS battery life, reduced operational risk and will materially benefit budgets over the next three years.
