A HPE Nimble Storage Case Study
Community Health Plan of Washington (CHPW) is a not‑for‑profit health plan serving 288,000 members statewide and reinvesting surplus funds into local clinics. CHPW needed to refresh aging servers and a large, costly Compellent SAN that consumed scarce datacenter space and could not cost‑effectively scale to support a 24 TB SQL environment and new development, all on a tight budget.
CHPW implemented Nimble Storage SmartStack—Nimble CS-240/CS460 arrays with Cisco UCS B200 M3 blades, VMware vSphere and Nimble InfoSight—replacing the old SAN. The new solution delivered roughly 2x cost savings versus a Compellent upgrade, reduced the storage footprint from 42U to 6U, simplified administration, provided strong performance for 24+ TB of SQL and internal apps, enabled efficient snapshots that cut nightly backup volumes, and improved disaster recovery.
