A HPE Nimble Storage Case Study
The City of Hot Springs and Garland County needed to move a broad mix of applications to a virtualized environment but were constrained by aging EMC storage: capacity was near limits, application performance was poor, management was complex, and replication/DR was effectively not an option. Their small IT team faced growing demand for services like imaging, Exchange and SQL yet “had nowhere to go” with the legacy arrays.
They replaced the EMC SAN with Nimble CS210 arrays (two deployed, a third planned), gaining powerful inline compression and application-aware performance that cut effective capacity use roughly in half and left day-one utilization around 40–45%. Performance issues disappeared, administration and provisioning simplified (volume-per-server, vCenter integration), VM recovery times dropped from a day to under an hour, and hourly snapshots/replication between sites delivered practical DR while enabling continued virtualization and growth.
