A HPE Nimble Storage Case Study
Central Minnesota Jobs & Training Services (CMJTS), a nonprofit serving 11 counties, was struggling with an overloaded 4 TB SAN that caused VDI “boot storms,” sluggish application performance, multi-minute reboots, and unusable Skype video chat—while provisioning a new desktop could take days. Growing VDI demand and periodic heavy reporting made higher IOPS and more capacity essential to keep services and remote collaboration running.
CMJTS deployed a Nimble CS220 flash‑optimized array with inline compression, snapshots and VMware linked‑clones, which immediately boosted performance and capacity. The move cut storage footprint by roughly 70–75% (effectively fourfold capacity), enabled peak IOPS of 20k (bursts to 30k), reduced VDI provisioning from days to about one hour, eliminated boot‑storm latencies, made video chat functional, and allowed more frequent, non‑disruptive snapshots—clearing the path to expand VDI and other services.
