A HPE Nimble Storage Case Study
Camberwell Grammar School, a single‑site independent boys’ school of 1,300 students in Melbourne, was moving to a virtual desktop infrastructure to replace 135 desktop PCs but was held back by a five‑year‑old storage system managing 13 TB of data and escalating support costs (almost $22,000/year). The IT team needed a scalable, affordable, and simple‑to‑manage storage platform to support VDI, student management and email while freeing staff to focus on strategic projects.
Working with Data Solutions Group, CGS implemented a Nimble Storage CS260, consolidating six storage units into one (a 75% rack‑space reduction) and cutting used capacity from 13 TB to under 9 TB. The array delivered 21% savings through compression (2.8 TB), 13 TB via thin provisioning, hosts 135 thin clients and 22 virtual servers, enables automated daily snapshots, improved throughput and reliability, and reduced management overhead so the IT team and teachers have had no complaints since deployment.
