A HPE Nimble Storage Case Study
BlueTie, a Rochester-based SaaS provider founded in 1999 that supports nearly one million users with cloud email, calendaring and collaboration services, was struggling with an aging Hitachi BlueArc SAN and several hundred Dell and Fujitsu servers. The environment required frequent drive and component replacements, consumed excessive rack space and power, and could not easily meet the high IOPS, capacity and budget constraints BlueTie needed for continued growth.
BlueTie ran a POC and deployed Nimble CS460G-X2 arrays, migrating hundreds of mailboxes and ultimately hosting over 800,000 mailboxes on Nimble. The new platform cut the datacenter footprint from three racks to 12U, reduced server mail-processing rack space from 33U to 10U, delivered roughly 6x faster software performance, provided 1.3x compression (freeing 16 TB), and lowered costs—saving about $36,000/year in electricity and $70,000/year in support—paying back the investment within a few years.
