Valmont modernizes its network for Industry 4.0 manufacturing worldwide

Valmont Industries, a global manufacturer with more than 10,000 employees across 84 facilities, needed to modernize its network to support Industry 4.0 initiatives. The company faced challenges from harsh shop‑floor environments, a rapid increase in IoT devices, the need to mobilize workers with real‑time communications, and a requirement for centralized, scalable access management for a lean IT team.

Valmont deployed Aruba indoor/outdoor Wi‑Fi and switching, ClearPass for unified wired/wireless authentication and policy enforcement, and AirWave for centralized management. The new rugged, scalable infrastructure saved about $1.5M in networking costs, eliminated large legacy support fees, enabled robotics and live video collaboration across plants, simplified IT with software‑defined networking, and prepared the company for future asset‑tracking and AI/ML initiatives.
